Job Description:  Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist

This position is half to full time hourly position at $20 per hour with a flexible schedule in Butte, MT or the surrounding communities
  • The BHPSS must maintain long term stable recovery
  • The BHPSS must be willing to publicly self- identify as being in recovery from a substance use, addiction and or co-occurring mental health disorder
  • The BHPSS must be willing to share his/her own story of recovery as an inspiration to others
  • The BHPSS must be able to obtain and maintain state Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist certification from the state of Montana
  • The BHPSS should be able to take direction, be prompt, take initiative, complete tasks as assigned, and be able to work effectively as part of the MPN team
  • The BHPSS should be articulate, and have good communication skills
  • The BHPSS must adhere to the Board of Behavioral Health CBHPSS Code of Ethics
  • Reliable vehicle for travel to target communities, including a valid drivers license and insurance is required
  • The BHPSS should have a basic understanding of the following:
    • The concept of recovery as it relates to behavioral health
    • Peer Support Services
    • Wellness, recovery and or relapse prevention planning
    • Community resources for women with substance use disorder (SUD) and or opioid use disorder (OUD) who are pregnant or new mothers in the target co of southwest Montana
    • The BHPSS must complete and pass Peer Support 101 Training (40 hrs.)
  • The BHPSS must have good computer skills such as:
    • The concept of recovery as it relates to behavioral health
    • Peer Support Services
    • Wellness, recovery and or relapse prevention planning
    • Community resources for women with substance use disorder (SUD) and or opioid use disorder (OUD) who are pregnant or new mothers in the target co of southwest Montana
    • The BHPSS must complete and pass Peer Support 101 Training (40 hrs.)
  • The BHPSS must have good computer skills such as:
    • Word
    • Excel
    • Outlook
    • Video conferencing
    • Access to high-speed internet away from the office
  • Submit to and pass a drug and alcohol test prior to employment
  • Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Provide one on one SUD/OUD peer support to women to enhance pregnant and parenting women and rural residents’ ability to access treatment and move toward recovery in Silver Bow, Deer Lodge, Beaverhead, Madison, and Jefferson counties in southwest Montana. This includes substance use, mental health, and trauma recovery
    • Facilitate a recovery support group with the identified target population
    • Outreach to target counties in southwest Montana including travel to those communities on a weekly basis
    • Participate in all staff, stakeholder, community and project meetings
    • Participate in regular clinical supervision
    • Collect data as directed for project evaluation and project reporting
    • Compile reports and documentation in a timely manner
    • Other tasks as assigned
    • The BHPSS will report to the Executive Director
